Camouflage
In Autumn, leaves change from green to brilliant golds and reds.
In the same manner, Coop's summer wheat gold coat is turning red. Cooper's strawberry coat is much lighter than Oti's dark auburn coloring.
I have read that some animals change color with the season as a way to camouflage themselves from prey. I think that Cooper is hoping that his new coloring will make it difficult for the chipmunks to spot him in the yard.
